• The Phoenix compiled a list of the 100 best emo songs according to their staff.
• Metallica announced the lineup for their festival, Orion Music and More, which features acts such as The Gaslight Anthem, Fucked Up, Lucero, Best Coast, and many more.
• Live footage of The Gaslight Anthem performing The Who's "Baba O'Reilly" has surfaced.
• Joey Cape of Lagwagon discussed upcoming tour plans with an adorable interviewer who will hopefully conduct interviews for Punknews one day.
• Bomb the Music Industry! announced the dates for their upcoming tour.
• We talked with Damian Abraham of Fucked Up.
• We posted an exclusive stream of The Sidekicks' new record, Awkward Breeds.

Q: Do you think a main stream band that is not really punk rock, along the lines of System of a Down, will ever be number 1# for a top list at punknews? Do you think that people are too hip and want to pick a band that they just heard about?

A: System of A Down's "Toxicity" was the #1 album of the year for Punknews. I think it was 2003 maybe. Also Brand New's major label debut (which wasn't really punk) was number 1.

I understand why you might think we wouldn't pick a mainstream artist given recent year's selections but for the editorial staff, it is much more about the music than the label or level of popularity. We all have different tastes, Adam White loves Neil Young, I have a soft spot for pop music, I'm pretty sure Kira listens to nothing but powerviolence (okay, I can't confirm that). The point is, that we always try to rate music based on merit and not if it fits the definition of "punk rock". Hopefully we can maintain that low standard we've set.

• The Lawrence Arms' Brendan Kelly and The Vandals' Joe Escalante shared their views on the SOPA bill.
• The dates for The Fest 11 were announced a bit earlier than usual so get to planning.
• Refused have announced a new date in NYC in addition to their previously announced dates in celebration of their reunion.
• Dillinger Escape Plan had some issues with drugs this week.
• Hot Water Music have entered The Blasting Room in Fort Collins, CO to record their new album just as The Bouncing Souls have finished up their new record.
• Against Me! performed some brand new songs recently at the Slamdance Film Festival.

Q: What are punks gonna do when they get old and can't move around in punk fashion at punk shows?

A: How old are we talking here? Because when you reach a certain age you're allowed to bring in items that most venues probably wouldn't let you bring in otherwise. Such as canes. Even though you can no longer move around in punk fashion at least you have a cane to protect yourself against those who can. Or maybe just to hit and trip people for fun. Old folks can get away with a lot of cool stuff.

I have a cousin whom I call Punkasaurus because he's an old fart. He was one of those kids who turned edge because of Minor Threat back in the 80s. Now he drinks beer like it's water. We saw the Circle Jerks last year and he would pogo up and down for 5 second periods sporadically throughout the show. So maybe that's how old punx get down.
