Recently, Arcade Fire released a video clip for their song "We Exist." The clip starred "Spider-Man" actor Andrew Garfield as a man struggling with gender identity. In the video, Garfield gets beaten up. However, Against Me!'s Laura Jane Grace took the band to task via her Twitter:
Dear @arcadefire , maybe when making a video for a song called "We Exist" you should get an actual "Trans" actor instead of Spider-Man?– Laura Jane Grace (@LauraJaneGrace) May 22, 2014
Grace has been using her voice and place within the scene to encourage and hold meaningful conversation about trans topics. She recently announced a new AOL webseries called "So Much More" which will focus on the lives of people in the transgender community.
