It’s unfortunate that Lifetime only gained the reputation they did after breaking up, at least to those living outside of the tri-state area -- but I suppose that’s to be expected whenever a punk band with a gold record namedrops you on TRL and community center shows.

Great stuff...love Northbound Breakdown and Can't Think About it Now, only track I don't dig is Just a Quiet Evening. They did shuch a shitty job on the vinyl. Finally got a copy of this yesterday, and i'm liking it. yemin prevails once again I really like the new album. I listen to it just as much as I do Jersey's Best Dancers. It sounds like the same band to me. i just start listening...so to answer your question..yes. Has anyone here not blown Lifetime? except that i went with a girl who was visibly uncomfortable so i couldnt get too much closer than near the back. except for during "the boy's no good" because thats my favorite lifetime song (and apparently a bunch of other peoples' too). i also thought ari looked kinda ridiculous because he didnt seem to know what to do when he yelled out "yo dc! how's the scene out here?" and no one responded. i did. that was a really fun show all the way through. Well, I saw 'em live (couldn't get rid of my extra tickets) and I actually had a really good time. The new songs are pretty good pop-punk/power-pop songs, with emotive but kinda cliche lyrics. The old songs are really a lot of fun, and I'm actually soory that I never got any of their releases beyond a burned copy of "Somewhere...". Seeing a huge crowd singing along to "The Boy's No Good" and watching the big circle pit during 'Danyuerism" were great moments. Ari seemed like a dick, but Dan was really well-spoken and interesting. Anyone else see them @ the Black Cat? As someone who saw Lifetime several times in the mid-to-late 90's (outside of the tri-state area... what's up with that part of the review?), I think it was fun to see them play some shows again but... fair to say that these guys should stop putting new records out while they still have some integrity left. Give me Zero Zero over Lifetime part deux any day. Can't wait for Ari to start wearing makeup on their big support tour of '07... urgh i thought my college radio station would get this in, but apparently we haven't. Anyone want 2 tickets to tonite's (8:30)Lifetime show in DC? I have extras, and would sell them (slightly less than market value) to someone outside the Black Cat. vocal delivery sounds like a less refined new bouncing souls "hey christine"??? you're dumb I've always thought this band was alright, nothing exception al whatsoever (and you all can kill me now but I always liked Kid Dynamite so much better than Lifetime.) In fact the only memorable song to me they ever did was "Rodeo Clown" but I could listen to that song on repeat for about an hour. My question is, I have heard the Two Songs 7". If I didn't particularly care for those songs, should I bother with the full length? Ari's voice sounds different, but it's still good. I really am enjoying this album. Television for women? kid below me makes a good point. also, is it just me or does ari's voice sound the same, just more cleaned up on the production end? it's not like he started singing like pete steele all of a sudden... I'd just like to point out a really obvious point that people seem to be missing: while yes, I'd like it if Lifetime released their records on Jade Tree or ANY other Indie label really, think about this: they're now signed to a label that will give them complete, utter freedom. Pete Wentz has, on multiple occasions, declared his unabashed love for this band. He wouldn't dare question anything they do. They aren't sell outs since this album isn't gonna be breaking any records. It'll roughly sell about as much as any other Lifetime record since it sounds like a Lifetime record. Yes, it's slick and nicely produced, but musically they haven't missed a beat. They're essentially in a very good place for any band. Great distribution and complete creative freedom. "How do you change your voice? " i am seeing them tomorrow night at the black cat! hooray! decent album. not as good as there past albums but solid score is for Will "If you loved their old stuff and don't like this, then you're to caught up in punk rock politics." bought this last night at around 6, and i've listened to it 9 times thru already. so good. "Yeah? So? He wasn't arguing about why it changed. He just doesn't like the change. Why Ari's voice changed won't change his distaste for it. yeah, but i bet they gave the Saosin album high marks. chortle. emotionalpunk.com gave this album a horrible review. shows what they know! "Some people as they get older their voice changes" "I seriously love lifetime, Jersey's Best Dancers and Hello Bastards are seriously two of the best melodic hardcore albums ever and I even really like all their older shit, but this... I just can't get into it... He completely changed his voice... It's as big of a change as when Civ went from GB to CIV" I don't give a shit what label this came out on, so I won't really comment much on that. < i> these guys haven't missed a beat. thank god for that. airport monday morning was on repeat my entire drive to work this morning. I seriously love lifetime, Jersey's Best Dancers and Hello Bastards are seriously two of the best melodic hardcore albums ever and I even really like all their older shit, but this... I just can't get into it... He completely changed his voice... It's as big of a change as when Civ went from GB to CIV We're just over 2 months into 2007 and there's already two solid pop punk albums on the market (the other being the Alkaline Trio B sides). I'm looking forward to this year I think. jesus christ, what the fuck ever happened to just LIKING a fucking band or NOT LIKING it? all this infighting bullshit has to stop. punk rock CAN be political, but it certainly isn't an EXCLUSIVELY political genre. punk has just as much to do with purely SOCIAL change, unity among people with common ideas, goals and interests, and social inclusivity (inclusiveness?) as it had to do with "smashing the state" or whatever anti-flag is shoveling into your ear to get you to buy their fucking $20 t-shirts at hot topic. A super solid effort to update Lifetime's razor-sharp punk rock regimen with sugary pop platitudes. I like it but it kind of runs out of steam by the 8th or 9th song. Still a solid release and I am glad we got another Lifetime album to enjoy. jesus christ, what the fuck ever happened to just LIKING a fucking band or NOT LIKING it? all this infighting bullshit has to stop. punk rock CAN be political, but it certainly isn't an EXCLUSIVELY political genre. punk has just as much to do with purely SOCIAL change, unity among people with common ideas, goals and interests, and social inclusivity (inclusiveness?) as it had to do with "smashing the state" or whatever anti-flag is shoveling into your ear to get you to buy their fucking $20 t-shirts at hot topic. "If you loved their old stuff and don't like this, then you're to caught up in punk rock politics." "and this is surely one of the tightest punk albums of 07. until the new D4 comes out." Didn't get the artwork with the download at iTunes. in context with the rest of the artwork inside, the cover is actually cool. Downloaded this from iTunes. I didn't like the 2 songs on the 7", they were ok but I was just expecting so much more from a Lifetime reunion. Is the rest of this album better than the 2 new Lifetime songs I have heard? Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, February 6, 2007 at 11:10 AM (EST) "Let me guess, the reviewer is about 19 years old? get a clue douchebag" These "what are you [age between 12 and 20]?" comments need to stop. Not because of the ageism, as it is sometimes appropriate, but because none of them make any sense. I got called 14 for liking Ben Folds, and now Conoley gets called 19 for loving Lifetime, when the average fan of both artists in 2007 is 24-30. I cannot figure out the insult below me. Let me guess, the reviewer is about 19 years old? get a clue douchebag The dude's voice sounds totally different, when they play live does his voice sound like this for when they play their old songs (like is it just how his voice sounds now?) or does he sing them they way they were recorded (like is it a stylistic thing). Great Album. One of the best released so far this year and will be there by years end. everyone who likes this record, didn't you hear? it's not cool to like anything around here. you must all be new. "If you loved their old stuff and don't like this, then you're to caught up in punk rock politics." Great album, horrible art. How about a review for the new Authority Zero? It's the shit. If you never liked this band that much before, try this CD. I enjoyed the other two CDs, but not as much as this one. This is the only one of the three to be instantly great for me. Good review. The dude's voice sounds totally different, when they play live does his voice sound like this for when they play their old songs (like is it just how his voice sounds now?) or does he sing them they way they were recorded (like is it a stylistic thing). This is good but its no Bloc Party. ten years later and they still sound exactly the same so glad this cd is so good. just bought it today at best buy. i am so glad this style of fast punk is coming back. with this, set your goals, and even the new sum 41 is supposed to be going back to playing fast again. this is so much better than 90% of the stuff out there today Just bought album today. I have to say after first listen, I am liking it. I wonder how many copies this will scan the first week, the record store I went to almost has a empty shelf i honestly cant say im a fan of any of dan yemins bands at all. this one has to be the one that sucks the most though i still love them. i plan on picking this up ASAP. I first heard Lifetime at a punk show in 1995, when my friends band opened for them. After the set I was hooked, and went straight to the merch table and bought Hello Bastards. I got the new album in the mail this weekend, and I'm just as impressed as I was 12 years ago. If you never liked this band, this album isn't going to change your mind. If you loved their old stuff and don't like this, then you're to caught up in punk rock politics. i got into lifetime around 1999/2000. i never thought i would get to see them live, and then had the chance, and it was awesome. whether their motivations were dollar signs or not i couldn't tell because it seemed like their hearts were in it, and they were having a blast. if they are faking it they are doing a good job. Can't wait to get this at Best Buy today. So far from what I heard live and on their recent 7-inch, I'll be pleased with the results. Though the chances of me running into any Fall Out Boy merchandise at BB will probably be great. oh well, definitely worth it in this case. I don't see how a fan of the band, or even the genre, could dislike this based solely on the music thats on this disk. good review. This music is fuckin good, I hope this stuff gets on MTV it is a great passageway for kids to get into punk. I doubt this will get very popular though because the singers voice just isn't mainstream enough. old lifetime was ridiculously overrated. and kid dynamite destroyed anything they ever did. that being said, this album is actually pretty fucking good. why? it sounds more like kid dynamite than lifetime. score is for pete weintz who wrote all these songs This album IS pretty good. I'd put it just below "Jersey's Best Dancers", to which I'd give a 9. Ugh... "Melodic hardcore." Oxymoron if ever there was such a thing. Who can bare to listen to this shit wow. you were all kissing lifetime's collective ass up until their reunion. no interest in hearing this really. "Is Punknews.org Lifetimes new PR Firm?" Is Punknews.org Lifetimes new PR Firm? This isn't a review as much as it is a fucking fans press release. What the hell? You report when they wipe their ass! The funny thing is tha I love Lifetime and think that this is a cool record. Still the dynamic between this site and Lifetime is just fucking wierd. Listened once, and thats it. These guys are so overrated around here. Ugh... "Melodic hardcore." Oxymoron if ever there was such a thing. anyone that has this do you want to send it to me? my AIM sn is ooorxbanditsooo how many times can you put the phrase "pop-punk" in one review? There's a difference between "doing it for the money" (aka, let's get rich) and reforming because enough people care now that it's more fun and you won't LOSE money. yes. because all albums should be judged solely on the artwork of their albums... and by the way i kind of dig the artwok on this album. i mean it's not upping the punx but it's abstract enough to be kinda cool. i wish they would have spent more than 30 seconds doing the cover for this album. what a fuck you to fans waiting for this. shittiest artwork ever. fuck this band. RE:the people who don't think lifetime are doing it for the money are fucking stupid. Good review Ben. I haven't heard the whole thing yet, so I'm not gonna comment much. I will say, however, I disagree with you on Ari's vocals (from the songs I've heard at least). They seem a bit too smooth for me, which takes a bit of an edge off of them. I'm sure I'll get used to it after a few listens, but thats my first impression. And this is my score. I don't think this is Lifetime's best album, no matter when it was released or could have been released. i cannot wait to get this after work I 100% never said it isn't good because it's late. I said it won't have the same impact. I also said it was their best album. I so disagree when the reviewer says this isn't as good because it's late. Lifetime's best album hands down, it totally blew me away. good stuff not as big of a deal as allot of people are making this out to be, rather dull-oldpunker- deserving of the praise.sonically this is probably the band's best record. in terms of delivering art that shatters context, the winner is hands down Hello Bastards, simpyl for the fact that when it came out, nothing really sounded like it. But the eponymous release is its own context, which means it is not new and groundbreaking the way Bastards was. the people who don't think lifetime are doing it for the money don't have to depend on money for survival, expanding possibilities, and keeping yourself in good health after the kickass prime of your 20's. the people who don't think lifetime are doing it for the money are fucking stupid. It’s unfortunate that Lifetime only gained the reputation they did after breaking up... i absolutely love this album. its their fastest one yet, and while it still doesnt quite top Jersey's Best Dancers (although did anyone really expect it to?), its a fantastic album. i have to admit, this surprised me a bit. this cd kinda sucks... I Love all of Lifetimes work, and I love this! Good review. I gave it a couple of listens. Seemed pretty bland and boring. I love this album and agree it is close to JBD. I will be purchasing it tommorow! saves the day was better at being lifetime than this. All Night Long is an excellent song. Good review. If your a Lifetime fan, than give this a couple spins to sink in, and you will realize this is right up there with JBD. I love this album and I think it may even be the best thing they have put out. I love track number 5. I'm not sure, but it's possible that the Fallout Boy record was only certified gold at the time they referenced Lifetime on televeison. So what punk band with a gold record name dropped Lifetime on TRL? Fall Out Boy are platinum selling......so was it NFG? Or maybe it was Fall Out Boy before going platinum? It's missing JBD's heartache, but the production is absolutely spot on and this whole thing is so, so fun. This could've been released in 1999 and no one would be the wiser. Thank you for this review. I'm buying this tomorrow. I hope I agree with you. |
