Gerard Way (My Chemical Romance) announces new comic book series
As more successful acts continue to up their geek cred with toys and gothy clothing lines, My Chemical Romance frontman Gerard Way has decided to launch his own comic book.
Dubbed The Umbrella Academy, the series will be published by maverick publisher Dark Horse, home of Hellboy and Conan which became films, Terminator and Star Wars which took the opposite route.
Dark Horse describes the six-issue series as:
The story of Sir Reginald Hargreeves, a world-renowned scientist and inventor, intrepid adventurer, successful entrepreneur, champion cricketer and closet space alien.
The first series features interior artwork from Gabriel Bá and covers by Eisner Award-winning artist James Jean. Interestingly, Way's bandmate Frank Iero launched his own comic book/clothng company, Skeleton Crew, last year.
Of course, My Chemical Romance remain a primarily musical endeavour and to that end, the band continue to work on their next album with Green Day producer Rob Cavallo.
