Michael Moore has struck deals with two major labels to release soundtrack albums that will accomplany the October 5th DVD release of his movie Fahrenheit 9/11. The first will be released by Warner Brothers and will feature the movie score and songs featured in the movie such as Neil Young's Rockin' in the Free World and REM's Shiny Happy People. The other one will be release by Sony BMG and is described by Moore as being the motivation for him and his crew.
This second compliation will feature new songs from Rage Against the Machine alumni Zach de la Rocha and Tom Morello's Nightwatchmen. It will also feature previously released songs from The Clash, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, and System of a Down. Half of all the procedes from the Sony album will go to the Fallen Patriot Fund, a group that provides benefits to familes of soldiers killed in Iraq.
The Warner released disc will benefit Rock the Vote. The New York Times has a lengthly article about the release of the albums and the DVD along with a new book from Moore that is a collection of letters sent to him by soldiers in Iraq, which is also set for release on October 5th.
