Cursive has announced the departure of cellist Gretta Cohn on the band's Myspace page. The following message was posted yesterday regarding the situation:
Cursive regrets to announce the departure of cellist Gretta Cohn. After four years in the band, Gretta has decided to leave Omaha to pursue other interests and projects, including a potential solo album. The split is very amicable: the band wishes her well and she in turn eagerly anticipates the new Cursive material to come. Cursive will not be seeking a replacement.
There's no current word on what label would release the tentative solo material from Cohn, but we'll keep you updated.
According to the last update from the band, Cursive just recently began writing for the proper followup to the recent singles collection and 2003's The Ugly Organ, the latter of which was Cohn's sole credit to the band's stable of LPs, while she also appeared on 2001's Burst And Bloom EP.
