AFI has been added to the 2006 edition of the Big Day Out Australian tour. The six stop tour in January and February will also feature White Stripes, Iggy and the Stooges, Franz Ferdinand, Kings of Leon, The Mars Volta, Sleater-Kinney, the Living End, Youth Group and many others.
AFI continues to work on the long-awaited follow up to their breakthrough release Sing the Sorrow and has revealed little about the album except that it is expected in 2006. The status of the recording can be gleaned from posting to the band's message board where the band members have promised "more rock and electronica elements and adapt more of a 'cold-pop' into their sound than their previous work."
Recently, vocalist Davey Havok has said that he is recording the vocals, which could indicate that they are in the last stages of recording.
