Finally, some news from BYO! You have to respect the Stern brothers. If any band from the great 80's So-Cal scene has kept it real, its Youth Brigade. BYO is doing some exciting work right now, cheers to them. News from Manic Hispanic and Pinhead Circus below…
Pistol Grip bassist, Slowey M. was arrested last weekend in Pomona, Ca before th eUnseen/ Anti Flag show. He was sitting in a car eating a couple of tacos, when the police swarmed the parking lot, pulled him and his friend out of the car and proceeded to beat them with billy clubs. Supposedely there was a report of a stolen car, and they thought that was the one. Needless to say, they found a gun and charged him with possession of a loaded handgun and a concealed firearm. He will attend court on June 11, but we suspect the charges should be dropped for illegal search. He assures us that he will beat the charges and not miss any of the upcoming shows in June. Also, watch out for a full blown U.S. tour that is in the works for July and August..
WELT DOES NOT TAKE ANY SHIT!!! After a brief encounter at a local bar a few weeks back, drummer Marc H. was confronted by a drunken jock with a desire to throw some fists. Well, after numerous attempts to wave the guy off, he finally got so fed up that he picked this guy up and threw him through the front window of the bar. The bar pressed charges, and he is now in the slammer for the next 30 days, but he will be out next month and ready to rock on the upcoming dates. Their new album "Brand New Dream" will be in stores on June 12, and the band will be playing throughout the country all summer long.
THE UNSEEN have been tearing it up all across the country, on tour with Anti Flag and One Man Army. The response has been overwhelming, and the anticipation on the new album is out of control. The phone calls have been going off, and we've had offers of up to $100 for an early copy of the record. But don't worry, BYO will be releasing a free sampler cd next week that will feature a new song from the album, as well as each of our other upcoming releases. You can pick one up at any of the Unseen shows. Also, if want to download one of the songs, go to http://unseen.unixpunx.org
LEATHERFACE have just enjoyed some time off after finishing up a U.S. tour with Hot Water Music, and are now gearing up for the European leg of that tour. Their latest release, "The Last", has been gaining alot of steam, and we have been hearing nothing but praise for these long time veterans. Don't miss them this time around!
YOUTH BRIGADE have been getting ready for a run of shows in june, with one of the best bands to emerge in a long time, PISTOL GRIP. Rumor still has it that the brothers Stern have been writing songs for a new release in-between long surf sessions at one of the few secret spots left in Southern California. Let me stress "Rumor"!!!, but if it's anything like the stuff they released last year on the split with the Swingin' Utters,……….bring it on! Also, don't miss them at the Holidays in the Sun festival in San Francisco when they share the stage (like they did many years ago), with GBH, Cockney Rejects, and you don't want to miss the return of one of the greatest bands, SHAM 69!!.
MANIC HISPANIC, Orange County's favorite satirical punk outfit, will be releasing "The Recline Of Mexican Civilization" on BYO July 10, the follow up to the hilarious "Menudo Incident". If you missed them on Cinco De Mayo in Santa Ana, you can still catch another rare performance at The Troubador in West Hollywood, CA. on June 8. This all star band consists of members from Cadillac Tramps, Adolescents, The Grabbers, and you can hear such soon to be classics as "Get Them Immigrated" (offspring), 'Rudy Cholo" (rancid), "Brown Girl" (X-featuring Billy Zoom on guitar), "Mexican Tar" (The Ramones….R.I.P. Joey), and many more.
PINHEAD CIRCUS's new release "The Black Power Of Romance, has been receiving rave reviews, from press and radio. The band has had to endure a series of events that would have sent most bands crawling home, but not this bunch of heathens from Colorado. First, singer/guitarist Scooter crushed his hand in a bowling accident (Wanderers style), and then bassist, Trelvis, sliced his hand on a 7 inch knife while preparing a meal. The tendons in his finger were severed 3 days before they had scheduled a record release party. Did that stop the band from playing? Hell no!, they rocked as the always do, just a little extra blood thrown into the mix for added theatrics. They just finished up a couple of weeks in the mid west, with the Queers and The Teen Idols, and are getting all geared up for a full blown U.S. tour that will start after their Warped Tour dates in early July. check our site for updates.
