Epitaph hip hop act, The Coup has set an April 22nd, 2006 release date for their upcoming full length, Pick a Bigger Weapon. The group, fronted by Boots Riley includes ex-Rage Against the Machine, current Audioslave member Tom Morello, Dwayne Wiggins, and veterans of Parliament-Funkadelic, the Gap Band, Toni! Tony! Tone!, Jesse Johnson, and Frankie Beverly and Maze.
The album will also feature contributions from Talib Kweli, The Roots' Black Thought and punk icon Jello Biafra.
The Coup are no strangers to controversy, their last album Party Music was was scheduled for release shortly after 9/11, but became a cultural flashpoint due to the album's original cover - (completed three months prior to 9/11 - which depicted the crew setting off an explosion in the World Trade Center using a guitar tuner and drumsticks. Since then, they have joined with Billy Bragg, Steve Earle, Tom Morello, and Janeane Garofalo, on the "Tell Us the Truth" tour.
