The New York Dolls, who recently reunited on the urging of Morrissey, have revealed some of the guests appearing on their upcoming debut to Billboard. The record will be their first for Roadrunner Records. The proto-punk act entered a hometown studio on January 15th, 2006 and reunited with producer Jack Douglas to record their first album of entirely new material since 1974's Too Much Too Soon.
The album is due July 25th, and features appearances from Against Me!'s Tom Gabel, Michael Stipe, Iggy Pop and Bo Diddley. The REM frontman lends his voice to "Dancing on the Lip of a Volcano," while rock'n'roll pioneer Diddley is heard on "Seventeen." Iggy Pop - who's Stooges actually predated the Dolls - guests on "Gimme Love and Turn on the Light." Tom Gabel is certainly the youngest contributor to the album and the Against Me! frontman joins the band on"Punishing World."
The reunited act features founding members David Johansen and Sylvain Sylvain, with Steve Conte (guitar), Sami Yaffa (bass), Brian Delaney (drums) and Brian Koonin (Keyboards). Original bassist Arthur Kane passed away in July of 2004 and was the subject of a recent independent documentary, New York Doll.
The band is planning an international tour in support of the new release which is scheduled for summer 2006 on Roadrunner.
