Thrice is encouraging people to participate in the upcoming Global Night Commute for The Invisible Children Movement. The charity, which was first brought to the band's attention while shooting the video for "Image of the Invisible", aims to increase awareness about the plight of the children of Uganda, many of whom are kidnapped from their parents and forced to serve in the rebel armies currently in conflict with the government of the country.
Many children in Uganda currently leave their homes every night and hike into towns to sleep in central squares for fear of abduction. The Global Night Commute seeks to encourage solidarity and support for the children. They are asking people to leave their homes for one night and commute to their local downtowns to sleep in the street in a demonstration to the government to act to end the war in Northern Uganda.
It is happening in 136 cities and more than 30,000 people are currently signed up to participate. For information on getting involved in your city, you can visit this page.
