Just shy of a year since he originally announced the reunion, Billy Corgan has announced plans to record a new record as the popular and influential 90s "alternative rock" act Smashing Pumpkins.

To date, only Corgan and drummer Jimmy Chamberlin are confirmed for the project; former Pumpkins bassist Melissa Auf Der Maur has not indicated any participation when she spoke with Billboard. The album will be the first new material from the band since 2000's MACHINA/The Machines of God.

Previous album sales totalled in the millions and the band even appeared on an episode of the Simpsons, performing as themselves.
