Former Vice President Al Gore has co–won the Nobel Peace Prize for his work on global warming. The activist and former politician shares the award with the United Nations' Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change for:
Their efforts to build up and disseminate greater knowledge about man–made climate change, and to lay the foundations for the measures that are needed to counteract such change,
Gore and the group will receive commemorative gold medals, a share of the $1.5 million prize and a diploma at the award ceremony, which will be held in Oslo, Norway, on December 10. Gore has been an outspoken figure for climate change, releasing his film, An Inconvenient Truth and organizing the massive Live Earth festival/demonstration.
