Here's your question and answer of the week from the Punknews Formspring:
Q: In the 70s major labels made bands put out one LP/ yr. It resulted in fantastic runs of lps by Bowie Stones Queen etc. This production schedule is no longer demanded by major or indie labels. Has this made bands "over think" music and killed spontaneity?A: I can see what you mean but that schedule has been usurped by the internet. Now, you have the ability to post new music, to the world, at any time. You can post an entire album that you recorded live in one take on line, if you like. You can look at artists like Into It. Over It. who did the 52 songs in 52 weeks projects.
Spontaneity still exists but it's up to musicians to self impose it, as opposed to having some coked out dick in a suit breathing down their neck.-Rich
