Billboard is reporting that Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds will be releasing an album yearly for the next three years. Their upcoming "Nocturama" is being released by Anti-/Epitaph in February. Cave told Billboard "We were sick of having to wait, ya know, three years (on a major label)… Ya know, you record the record, then there's this massive amount of promotion you have to do, and a fucking tour … ya know, the whole cycle is so long."
Each of the three records will, like "Nocturama," only be recorded in a weeks time. Cave expressed admiration of that style of recording and said his plan is to "do it like they used to do it. In the old days, ya know, they used to do two a year, some of those people, and they were great records. [Bob] Dylan is a great example. 'John Wesley Harding' was recorded in two hours -- and mixed; we haven't got quite to that point, but to me it's amazing. And Van Morrison's 'Astral Weeks' took two days, and there's a beautiful and important record." Anti has only optioned the first of the three releases but is hoping to release the others.
