us about a new album organized by Misfits bassist Jery Only called "Project 1950." The record will feature punk covers of 1950s era classics. The band features Only on bass and lead vocals, Marky Ramone of The Ramones on drums and Dez Cadena of Black Flag on guitars. Special guests on the album include 60's pop-rock icon Ronnie Spector contributing vocals, Jimmy Destri of Blondie adding keyboards, Misfits collaborator John Cafiero on backing vocals and saxophonist Ed Manion. Only is quoted with stating "The backbone of punk has always been the 3-chord progression which was ultimately inspired by classic rock and roll of the 1950's. I've always wanted to record some of the music that inspired the Misfits to show fiends where it all began. With this album…I will."
The album will be distributed by Rykodisc. The modern day Misfits have started up an imprint called Misfits Records on Ryko. One of the upcoming records on the label will be titled Osaka Popstar and the American Legends of Punk. The label releases Project 1950 on July 29th with a 24 page booklet and bonus DVD with 10 live songs.
