The music and art festival Strangewaves is set to hit the fairgrounds in Paris, Ontario on Friday, July 20, running through the 22nd. The eclectic event just had a last minute shakeup, with veteran no wave/dance-punk act ESG dropping out due to a medical emergency. Their replacement in the lineup seems pretty massive though. Strangewaves 4 will now feature a headlining ppearance by the American free-jazz legends Sun Ra Arkestra. They join a lineup that includes acts from a wide range of genres, such as ambient multi-instrumentalist Laraaji, the solo industrial project Pharmakon, Lolina (aka Inga Copeland), house music acts the Pender Street Steppers and Ramzi, Hamilton locals Uncontrollable Urge (members of TV Freaks), the minimalist folk act ANAMAI (Anna Mayberry of Toronto sludge punks HSY and David Psutka of Egpyptrixx), and plunderphonics pioneer John Oswald among others.
