Filmmaker Chad Stockfleth spent the last ten years working on a documentary on The Elephant 6 Recording Company, the collective that included The Apples in Stereo, the Olivia Tremor Control, Neutral Milk Hotel, Beulah, Elf Power, Of Montreal, The Minders, and Circulatory System. It's out now, but only via VHS. Also, you have to borrow it similar to a library book.
Stockfleth distributed flyers for the VHS at coffee shops and record stores in Chicago, New York, Atlanta, Portland, Athens, Los Angeles, and more. The flyers included tabs with a phone number at the bottom that you can tear off. After you call the number, you get instructions on how to get a copy of the VHS, which you are asked to return after viewing. The VHS comes with a library card you are asked to sign, as well. Each VHS also comes with a flyer for you to hang up around town. The film is titled A Future History Of: The Elephant 6 Recording Co and is "available" now.
