Cris Kirkwood, bassist of the influential rock band the Meat Puppets, is currently in critical condition after being shot by a security guard at a Phoenix, AZ post office. AZCentral.com is reporting that Kirkwood was arguing with a fellow customer over a parking space, screaming obscenities and threatening violence. When approached by the security guard on duty, Kirkwood shoved the man twice and took his baton, striking the guard in the head once. In response, Kirkwood was shot in the abdomen once as a self-defense measure.

Kirkwood, whose wife died of a heroin overdose in 1998, was taken to Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center and was rushed into surgery. The injuries are not expected to be life threatening. For the full story, click here.
