Here's your question and answer of the week from the Punknews Formspring:

Q: Where do you think the punk scene will be in twenty years? Do you think that any of the current crop of bands will have the longevity of a band like Bad Religion? A: It's tough to say. Bands that are relatively young and are creating what many would consider "important" and/or "timeless" music are frankly, few and far between. While I wouldn't rule it out, bands like Bad Religion certainly aren't a dime a dozen.

Here's your question and answer of the week from the Punknews Formspring:

Q: Most would agree that taste is subjective. But, is there some universal bar that determines that some art is inherently "better" than other art? For example, is the kidz bop version of "tumblin dice" worse than the Stones version across all metrics? A: I think most people would agree that (with notable exceptions) that all replicas are inferior to the original. In terms of "objective art" I think you're never going to get a single, objective metric for "good" or "bad". Besides people's personal tastes (I mean Kidz Bop sells for a reason), you have to consider that unless you know all the details of a particular art (including the artists motivation for creating it, their intent and so forth) you can't fully dismiss it. That isn't to say I haven't done that before (Sorry Nickelback), but I also don't think that's the best approach.

Here's your question and answer of the week from the Punknews Formspring:

Q: Certainly, to like a female artist's music simply because she is attractive would be demeaning. But, what's wrong with thinking a female musician is hot in addition to liking her music? I just can't deny my base instincts. A: There's nothing wrong with finding someone attractive, it's just that those two things are mutually exclusive and (quite frankly) nobody really cares how attractive (or not) you find someone. If an artist comes into conversation on Punknews (or elsewhere) and your only contribution to the conversation is a comment on their looks it doesn't really add anything substantive to the discussion. Your base instincts are fine and dandy, just keep them in your pants.

Here's your question and answer of the week from the Punknews Formspring:

Q:

Also - in the last podcast, you mentioned that some bands pretty much put out the same record over and over again, but in a good way. Like who, in your humble opinion? A:

There's a fine line here between tediously putting out the same album and having a so-called "winning formula." Bad Religion's in the latter camp for me. I love them, but their sound and approach is so stable and established at this point that you could consider them to be putting out the "same album" again and again. As it's a great album, I'm personally ok with that.
