Here's your question and answer of the week from the Punknews Formspring:

Q:

If the punknews staff is so fond of White Crosses then why did its review get only 2.5 stars? A:

Our reviews reflect only the opinion of the reviewer. It is not "the voice of the site" in the same way a review in a magazine is. We are, first and foremost, a user-generated content site and community. The editors and staff who liked the record didn't write the review. It's that simple.

Here's your question and answer of the week from the Punknews Formspring:

Q:

Ya know how hearing a song can bring about memories about where you were in your life when you first heard it? What songs evokes the best memory for you? A:

Joey Ramone's take on "Wonderful World" reminds me of my wedding day. Thats a great memory. I remember hearing Rancid's "…And Out Come the Wolves" on an archeological dig in high school when a friend let me borrow his walkman. I never looked back.

Hello everyone and welcome to Navel Gazing: your look back in the week in Punknews. I'm Bryne Yancey and I'll be your guide through some of the juiciest, most popular and otherwise noteworthy stories from the last seven days. Remember, every Punknews story is built from tips from our wonderful, good-looking readers, so get to submitting. Here's what got the strange, slow and old community talking this week:

  • Wildly popular rock outfit Paramore lost the Farro brothers from their ranks, with the brothers explaining their exit from the band in great, revelatory detail.
  • Rise Against talked to SPIN about their upcoming album, Endgame. Did Dave Mustaine give his blessing?
  • Yet another inexplicably popular band endured a lineup change this week as Avenged Sevenfold and drummer Mike Portnoy parted ways.
  • Finch announced their breakup after eleven years together. Somewhere in a cold, dark room, Alex Pappas quietly weeps.
  • Quite obviously taking a cue from us, Propagandhi launched their own podcast.
  • Finally, we revealed the best-of-2010 lists from our trusty review staff, and continued sharing lists from folks throughout the industry. Be sure to check back on Tuesday for lists from our editorial staff, and on Friday for the all-important site-wide list.

With that, we hand over this Sunday evening to the Punknews community, where anything is possible, from the next amusing-then-overwrought meme, to the creation of bands and message boards, to alienating sports chatter. So talk amongst yourselves and we'll see you Monday morning.

Here's your question and answer of the week from the Punknews Formspring:

Q: Does punknews really not get enough traffic/hits/clicks/clients for ad space that it doesn't make any profit? Is it just not feasible, or is it part of some punk ethos that you would make such a great website only to do it all for free? A:

We might. I'm not sure honestly.

All of us do it because we love it. most of us don't necessarily see journalism as our calling though (Brian and Bryne excluded). We are programmers and lawyers and teachers, planners and consultants and coffee folk. We all are bound together by a mutual enjoyment of music and a desire for others to get information about the music we love.

Basically: we're doin' it for the kids.*

Hello everyone and welcome to Navel Gazing: your look back in the week in Punknews. Remember, every Punknews story is built from tips from our wonderful, good-looking readers, so get to submitting. Here's what got the strange, slow and old community talking this week:

  • Against Me! frontman Tom Gabel claimed "serious mistakes" were made by the group's former label, Sire/Warner. A major label out of touch? You don't say!
  • Speaking of major labels, former Hellcat Records act Orange are in talks with several major labels according to frontman Joe Dexter, dropping names such as "Jive, Sony and Warners just to name a few." Personally, I think they should sign to Capitols or Geffens.
  • Henry Rollins revealed that he helped produce an album of acoustic pop songs by infamous killer Charles Manson in the 1980s.
  • The Lawrence Arms and Sundowner have been added to the Asian Man 15th Anniversary Party. Rumor has it they'll be taking the same flight over to California.
  • Popmatters posted its best punk of 2010 list, which included favorites from The Riot Before and Leatherface. In retaliation, we at Punknews.org will be revealing our list of the best pop of 2010 very soon. Will Ke$ha make the list? Who knows!
  • Finally, we begun revealing our industry best-of lists for 2010, which always sparks a great debate among our community. Look for more of these in the coming weeks.

Q: When were you upset the most about a band member leaving, and why? A: When Nate Albert left the Bosstones during the recording of "Pay Attention" it broke my heart. The band had been through a lot after their fairly meteoric rise. Nate had long been a primary songwriter and his guitar riffs and tone really anchored the band, regardless of where they were at at a particular time. After hearing Pay Attention it sounded like a band falling apart and running on steam. Even though Lawrence Katz is an amazing guitarist, nothing sounds quite like Nate ripping through the opening chords of "Devil's Night Out" or his freakishly clean upstroke in"The Impression That I Get." -Justin
