Hello everybody and welcome to Navel Gazing: your look back at the week in Punknews. I'm Bryne Yancey, pinch hitting for Adam White this week while he vigilantly peruses the contents of a hotel minibar somewhere in Ottawa. I'll be your guide through some of the most popular, notable, and otherwise attention getting stories of the past seven days. Each and every Punknews story is built from tips contributed by you fine folks, and here's what got the community talking this week:

With that we hand over this Sunday evening to you, the Punknews community. From that glorious, likely bearded rabble we've see the creation of everything from message boards and Punknews fantasy sports leagues to even a band or two. So talk amongst yourselves and we'll see you Monday…

Here's your question and answer of the week from the Punknews Formspring:

Q: Any of you get PFD (Post Fest Depression)? A: I don't. I miss parts of Fest for sure but usually by Monday morning I'm ready to get home and back to my boring routine of personal hygiene and acceptable nutrition (i.e. foods not served street side). -Rich

Here's your question and answer of the week from the Punknews Formspring:

Q: Who's the most punk recording artist that is not considered a punk by most critics and music fans? A: This is a pretty interesting question.

We're more in the habit of defining bands by the company they keep and the ideals they extol than their sound. For example, we'll happily call acts like Austin Lucas or Frank Turner punk despite the fact that what they're playing is often (from a strict genre classification perspective) better labelled as country or folk or plain old rock'n'roll. At the same time bands that are closer to punk in sound but not really part of the modern punk scene we're always uneasy about calling punk. Take British bands like the Libertines or Futureheads, they've got some pretty dead-on punk moments sound-wise but as they didn't/don't run with punk bands (at least big recognizable North American punk bands) they're not often spoken of as punk.

As for what's the most egregious misclassification? I have no idea.

Here's your question and answer of the week from the Punknews Formspring:

Q: Why does stuff in the "Happening Now" bar not make it to main story status? A: Depends. It's usually falls into one of three categories:

1) A newsbit that isn't substantial enough to warrant a story, but that we think is still worth checking out
2) A story either completely unrelated or only tangentially related to punk that's interesting, weird, funny, etc
3) A link to another site with its own content that we're either not permitted to copy or just don't copy out of professional courtesy

Those are the big ones, but it's really a judgment call each time.

We've also had a few folks specifically request having stories posted in the "Happening Now" bar. It has its advantages, the largest of which is that the link usually stays on the main page for longer than a day.

Here's your question and answer of the week from the Punknews Formspring:

Q: What's the drunkest Rich ever was at a show? A: One time my brother, Rich and I went to the Blue Lagoon in Santa Cruz to see Mike Park play with Chuck Ragan. When we walked in we saw the special was a shot of Jameson and a PBR for 3 bucks. Fast forward a few hours and we are _those_ guys yelling Chinkees songs at Mike and Rumbleseat songs at Chuck. We did get him to play Cursing Concrete. As we tried to leave I vaguely remember eating pizza and Taco Bell. We had to walk three miles to a hotel where they almost refused us a room.

That is, bar none, one of the best nights of my life. -Justin
