Beloved Clash frontman Joe Strummer would have been just 60 years old this year and to celebrate his birthday, the Strummer of Love festival has been announced. The event is being assembled by Strummerville, the Joe Strummer Foundation for New Music which was established by his wife Lucinda, his two daughters and English artist Damien Hirst.

The organizers explained:

Joe loved equality, community, global awareness and more importantly people. This festival is being put together to celebrate the life of this m Many of the great bands playing at the festival, some global superstars, others homegrown rising legends, began in much the same way as Joe did: having a passionate need to communicate to the world through music with nothing but a message and a few chords to get things rolling all with that great DIY ethic that is at the core of this celebration.an, the legacy he left behind and to remind us all how important it is, in this ever increasing age of commerciality and capitalism, to get on with what you believe in even if it means doing everything yourself.

The lineup has not yet been announced but the event is set for August 17th to 19th. The organizers are handling all ticket sales themselves.
