The most important news was obviously that the Mighty Mighty Bosstones are going to tour and record a new album. Don't call it a comeback! For some reason the news that Rock Band added Social Distortion, Replacements and Elvis Costello set you guys off - maybe you're Guitar Hero fans? Underoath stepped in it when they seemed to not know a thing about pioneering metal act Metallica. Agnostic Front is rolling out on tour, I'd make a clever quip but I value my kneecaps. The oddly controversial Alkaline Trio decided to leave Epic, start a label and plans to record in the summer. Phew. New reformed pop-punk dieties blink182 are working on a new album and recording after their upcoming tour. Another similarly huge band you may have heard of was in the news a bit this week. Green Day news is as follows: Green Day streams songs from new album, Streams of "21st Century Breakdown", MySpace is airing a May performance, they're touring with Kaiser Chiefs and Fuse plans a Green Day day. Fat Mike of NOFX was also in the news, talking about the music industry and recent price drops. Check out Part One and Part Two. Speaking of bands from back in the day hitting the road, Down By Law announced plans for both a new album and a South American tour.If that wasn't enough, how about the Circle Jerks playing two shows in June? Several bands have been added to the next Guitar Hero download, including The Devil Wears Prada, Unearth and Chimaira on May 7th. Chimaira will also be joining Hatebreed this summer for a U.S. tour. What would a week be without some Green Day news? Well, Spin posted a review for the band's highly anticipated record, 21st Century Breakdown. Also posted this week was a new, free download of a track from Dinosaur Jr's upcoming album. Lucero frontman Ben Nichols performed the band's track "San Francisco" for a new "musical drama on MTV about the Memphis music scene. In other alt-country news, Warped Tour maestro Kevin Lyman announced plans for country music tour, with multiple stages and driven by sponsors. On the opposite spectrum of a country music tour, the lineup for this year's 305 Fest was announced, and will feature Elldistort, Merkit, Cult Ritual, Deserter and The Diet Cokeheads, among others.

Many of you wrote in regarding the Pirate Bay trial in Sweden, in which the four founders of the popular BitTorrent tracker were found guilty of promoting copyright infringement. Meanwhile over in Norway a study suggested that pirates buy ten times more music than those who never participate in file sharing. The 2009 Lollapalooza festival will feature bands such as Rise Against, the Beastie Boys, Neko Case, the Constantines, the Gaslight Anthem, Deerhunter and Lou Reed among many others. 88 Fingers Louie (minus Joe Principe) are set to reunite in August. This week also had pointed words for popular punk/glam metal act Avenged Sevenfold, who were called a "gimmick" by Avenged Sevenfold.

Against Me! is planning to release The Original Cowboy via Fat Wreck Chords. The record features never-before-heard demos for the As The Eternal Cowboy album. Face To Face is in the studio recording a Rise Against cover for an upcoming split. 311 have revealed the track listing for their upcoming album Uplifter. NOFX are streaming their upcoming album Coaster. They also performed tracks acoustically on MySpace's Transmissions. Green Day posted a video for their new single "Know Your Enemy." The band also announced a May 16th performance on SNL along with their upcoming tour routing. The Bronx also unveiled their video for "Knifeman." Finally Social Distortion's Mike Ness joined up with a PETA campaign against factory farming. We had our firend Stevo from 1-2-3-4 Go! Records give us his thoughts on the event, which is now in its second year. Alternative Press spoke with a number of bands about their favourite stores, including the Lawrence Arms, Bouncing Souls, and Dillinger Four. Green Day unveiled Know Your Enemy, the first single from 21st Century Breakdown, as well as the lyrics and track listing for the full album. The band will celebrate the release with a club show at the Bowery Ballroom on May 18th. NOFX posted a new song from Coaster. "Creeping Out Sara" tells the story of Fat Mike meeting one Sara Quinn from Tegan and Sara backstage at a festival in Germany. iTunes' recent price increases went under the microscope recently, with Billboard reporting a decrease in sales but an increase in revenue for higher priced tracks.

The Grammy Museum has announced plans for a premiere screening of The Warped Tour documentary. The event will feature a discussion with tour head Kevin Lyman, director Jonathan Rach, and members of Fishbone as well as a live performance by the Phenomenauts. Against Me! has plans to has reissue their first seven-inch via Sabot Productions. This summer Dillinger Four will tour throughout the Midwest beginning on June 4th. The upcoming Chaos In Tejas festival will feature bands like Amebix, Cro-Mags, Cock Sparrer, the Business, Propagandhi, the Thermals, Career Suicide and Brutal Knights among others. This week saw a few interesting interviews come to life. Asian Man Records impresario Mike Park spoke about the recent Lawrence Arms represses and more upcoming projects. Mighty Mighty Bosstones singer Dicky Barrett also spoke with Adam Corolla. The band will record at the Terrarium in their hometown next week for a fall release. Berkeley, CA's Rancid have made the song "Last One To Die" available online. The track appears on the upcoming full length Let the Dominoes Fall. That album will also be available in a 3 disk expanded edition including an acoustic disc and a DVD. This week Senator Charles E. Schumer introduced legislation to target ticket scalping as well as ticket resellers like TicketNow. The bill would require a two-day waiting period from when tickets go on sale before a reseller can buy those tickets to put on the secondary market. Nine Inch Nails' Trent Reznor is urging musicians to go independent. He stated "Anyone who's an executive at a record label does not understand what the internet is, how it works, how people use it, how fans and consumers interact - no idea." Spinnerette, the project featuring Brody Dalle and Tony Bevilacqua of the Distillers, has detailed their upcoming debut. NOFX has hinted at an upcoming 10 inch cover album of songs from old hardcore bands. Richmond, VA's Landmines have posted of cover of the Clash classic "Guns of Brixton". 311 unveiled the first single "Hey You" from their forthcoming album Uplifter. Beastie Boys have posted the special features from their Check Your Head reissue including audio commentary, nine music videos, a Flash game and more. Gaslight Anthem has been performing acoustic and discussed a more "rock sound" for their 2010 album. The Lawrence Arms are planning their 10th anniversary show. The Dead Milkmen have been added to Insubordination Fest featuring bands like Pansy Division, Teenage Bottlerocket, Squirtgun, Dillinger Four, the Copyrights and more. The Casualties and Leftover Crack will be co-headlining a tour together beginning June 11th. The Bamboozle spinoff Hoodwink has announced new sets from bands covering their influence. Look for Anti-Flag tackling the Clash, the Ataris covering the Misfits, and Cartel tracking New Found Glory. The band will release The People or the Gun on the label on June 9th. Rancid has titled their new full length Let The Dominoes Fall. The record, their first since 2003, will arrive on June 2nd. The band further detailed the track listing this week as well. Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong discussed their ambitions for their new record 21st Century Breakdown. The band also discussed the musical based on American Idiot that's currently in the works. Boston Hardcore act, Death Before Dishonor has re-signed to Bridge Nine Records and is working on completing their next full length. Jimmy Eat World have plans to digitally release a live album recorded at the Tempe, Arizona date of the recent Clarity Tour. While plenty of bands have upcoming releases, the Aquabats are struggling with their future. Having been released from Nitro Records the band mused that "its time we all roll up our sleeves and decide to either pack it up and call it quits, OR by some miracle of hard work and perseverance …we … persevere!"

The Bouncing Souls recently had a little bit of tour trouble, having come up against an erupting volcano the form of Mount Redoubt. Greg Graffin of Bad Religion was interviewed on his upcoming mainstream book that discusses religion and naturalism. Blink-182's Travis Barker is working with rapper Busta Rhymes on a song for the upcoming Transformers film. Tom Gabel of Against Me! had a revealing interview with Chris Hannah of Propagandhi. The Beastie Boys streamed their upcoming remaster of Check Your Head this week.

The summer trek will feature the likes of Bad Religion, Anti-Flag, the Bouncing Souls, Flogging Molly, Less Than Jake, NOFX, Gallows, and the Ataris. Two members of Blackheart Records' indie/punk outfit Girl in a Coma were arrested in Houston after an altercation with police. Musician John Mellencamp contributed his voice to the chorus of commentators discussing the sorry State of the Music Business. His lengthy article appeared on the Huffington Post earlier this week.

NOFX has released a new song from their upcoming record, putting "The Quitter" online for preview. Dinosaur Jr. detailed their new record, the album is titled Farm and is due out June 23rd. A 39 song Kid Dynamite tribute is set for release and will feature the Ergs, No Trigger and This Is Hell. Green Day discussed their new record with Rolling Stone as well. Universal Records subsidiary, Original Recordings has commissioned Bernie Grubman to remaster Nevermind, In Utero and MTV Unplugged in New York for reissue on 180 gram vinyl. The Offspring has announced a tour of the US and Canada that will feature Alkaline Trio, Street Dogs, Shiny Toy Guns, Sum 41, Pennywise and the Dropkick Murphys. Propagandhi have added more US dates with Bridge and Tunnel this May. No Use For A Name have an upcoming tour of South America. The first batch of bands have been confirmed for the Sound and Fury Festival 2009 in Oxnard, CA. Look for Betrayed, Ceremony, Cold World and Trash Talk among the bands performing. Metallica have a tour of North America on the way. This week the band also described Guitar Hero as "new model for the music industry." Speaking of the popular video game, there was word this week that it would see expansions featuring the Pixies, Nirvana, and Motorhead. Richmond, VA's the Riot Before have released their video for "We Are Wild Stallions." A live recording surfaced of the Gaslight Anthem performing the Replacements classic "Left of the Dial." Blink-182 also teased their summer tour in a new video.

Mark Hoppus recently revealed that songs such as "M&Ms," "Apple Shampoo," "Man Overboard," "Anthem, Pt.2," "Dammit" and "Down" are among those being practiced. According to a recent Guardian report, the fourth "scariest word" for parents in the UK is "emo." The paranoia stems from recent media coverage of suicides in the country. Screeching Weasel is apparently playing shows again. Ben Weasel revealed as much in a recent Asian Man newsletter. Details on the line up and extent of the reunion are a little fuzzy right now. While they're not a band that falls into our usual umbrella, it was notable this week that the Counting Crows go label free. They join other former major label acts who recently cut ties with the media conglomerates.

Green Day's recently announced vinyl reissues will soon encompass the band's entire catalogue. 39/Smooth and Kerplunk are due out next week, with Dookie to follow in April along with a singles boxed set. Compton, California's Pour Habit has signed to Fat Wreck Chords and will re-issue their 2007 full length Suiticide this summer. The Paper Chase are planning a Kill Rock Stars release this Spring. Rapper 50 Cent will be sharing the stage with Fall Out Boy for five dates of their Believers Never Die tour this summer. The lineup has been announced for the 2009 BNB Bowl / Superbowl of Hardcore. It will feature Cro-Mags, Discipline, Earth Crisis, Indecision, Murphy's Law and Walls of Jericho among others. More shows have been added to the Alkaline Trio / Saves The Day tour. The Trio has also launched a remix contest. Chicago supergroup the Falcon will appear at the Windy City Soundclash event and will re-issue their LP Unicornography. Other bands on the road soon include 311 with Ziggy Marley. Footage was released this week of Propagandhi performing live in Sydney. Finally Brian Fallon of the Gaslight Anthem unveiled the song "Tin Pan Alley." Each and every Punknews story is built from tips contributed by you fine folks, and here's what got the strange, slow, old people in the community talking… The People Must Have Something Good To Read On A Sunday This week's most popular stories Dan Schafer of Screeching Weasel, the Riverdales and the Methadones has joined Neil Hennessy of the Lawrence Arms, the Falcon and the Smoking Popes has formed Noise By Numbers. This week also saw the debut of The Dead Weather, featuring Jack White of the White Stripes and the Raconteurs. Alison Mosshart of the Kills and Discount, Raconteurs bassist Jack Lawrence and Queens of the Stone Age guitarist Dean Fertita. The comic series Satanika by Misfits frontman Glenn Danzig is being adapted into a film by director Thomas Mignone. Radiohead, Billy Bragg and others have come out strongly against the relationship between their record labels and video site YouTube. At a recent gig at the University of East Anglia in Norwich, UK, Anti-Flag frontman Justin Sane broke his collar bone after stage diving into the crowd. The band had to cancel their tour due to the injury. This week saw another unauthorized use of Minor Threat's imagery. The band's logo from Out of Step apperned on a shirt at retailer Forever 21.

Polar Bear Club are set to begin recording their Bridge 9 debut with producer Matt Bayles. The Atticus IV compilation has been announced and will feature bands like Thursday, Unearth, and Cancer Bats. The John Roecker directed Green Day documentary, Heart Like a Hand Grenade, is set to premiere in Los Angeles on March 25th. There were plenty of tours announced this week. Shoegaze stars My Bloody Valentine are headed to the US. The Alkaline Trio and Saves The Day are hitting the road together. Against Me! and Off With Their Heads have a US tour in the works as well. Sing It Loud is heading out on the "Guys Guys Guys" tour with the Friday Night Boys, the Morning Light, Artist vs Poet and the Summer Set. Russian Circles, Sweet Cobra and Lichens will also tour. Sick Of It All are headed to Europe for a festival tour. Brand New will also be in the region touring the UK. The Bamboozle festival has added more bands including Young Love, Haste The Day, Patent Pending, Rookie of the Year, the Sounds and This Providence. The current version of the legislation would still require promoters to obtain $300,000 in liability insurance on top of paying fees ranging from $500 to $2,000. Promoters are worried that could make DIY shows all but impossible. Eric Wilson and Bud Gaugh have reunited Sublime on a Nevada stage a new a singer by the name of Rome. Montreal punk band Reset has also reformed with their No Worries era line up. Two members of the band now play in popular act Simple Plan. The Runaways movie is progressing, with news this week that actresses Dakota Fanning and Kristin Stewart will appear in the movie.

NOFX have unveiled the 12 song track listing for their upcoming alubm Coaster. American Steel have announced their new record, due in June. The band is asking fans to submit pictures of their American Steel tattoos for use in the album artwork. Broadway Calls will record with producer Bill Stevenson at the Blasting Room later this year. This week saw new audio from MxPx covering the Descendents "Suburban Home." We had full album streams of Propagandhi's Supporting Caste, New Found Glory's Epitaph debut Listen To Your Friends, and the Punk Goes Pop 2 compilation featuring Silverstein, A Static Lullaby, and Bayside. This week also saw streams of tracks from Frank Turner and Austin Lucas' Under The Influence entry. To our bemusement and ultimate horror, the anime-goes-punk compilation was also previewed. Social Distortion will head to Europe this year for festivals in Switzerland, Italy and Sweden. The Bouncing Souls also graced us with a video this week, showcasing their new track "Airport Security." Some are describing the job losses at the controversial and much reviled music industry group as a bloodbath. Robert Smith of the Cure criticized the concept of "pay what you want" albums. Smith stated that he violently disagrees with the idea, which had been popularized by acts like Radiohead and Nine Inch Nails and is utilized by punk labels like Quote Unquote Records. Once wonders what he'd think of Cursive's new album, which went on sale for $1 today, with the price to increase a dollar each day until March 10th. Influential act Faith No More recently announced a reunion tour. Screw 32 are also planning to get back together.

NOFX is promising their new record Coaster for later this year. Paper + Plastick has signed Lansing, Michigan's Cheap Girls, with a new album set for mid 2009. The Gaslight Anthem talked to MTV and unvieled their video for "Great Expectations." We also saw a video for MC Lars' "Guitar Hero Hero (Beating Guitar Hero Doesn't Make You Slash)." Thursday announced plans to perform their fan-favourite full length Full Collapse in it's entirety tomorrow on the Providence, RI date of the Rock Star Taste of Chaos tour. No Doubt has announced tour dates with Paramore, Bedouin Soundclash, the Sounds and Janelle Monae. Nine Inch Nails will play what may be their final tour this year with Jane's Addiction. MxPx also unveiled their cover of Dead Milkmen's "Punk Rock Girl."

This time a bicycle adorned with the band's logo caused the evacuation of a Memphis, Tennessee airport terminal. The bike turned out to be, in fact, a bike. The Gaslight Anthem were robbed in Gothenburg while on tour. They didn't lose anything essential but the paperwork holdup with the Swedish police caused them to miss a show. The Arizona Star newspaper launched a lawsuit against Tucson-based punk band Awful Truth. The band has controversially used a Star photo of a recently slain police officer on an album cover. Finally the punk world is on the edge of its collective seat awaiting the release of the "Punk Rock Activity Book". Soon you can partake in word searches and drawing games such as "help Siouxsie Sioux apply her makeup", "draw Henry Rollins' tattoos" and "colour Iggy Pop."

My Chemical Romance has claimed that they're going back-to-basics on their new record and won't be "hiding behind a veil of fiction or uniforms and makeup anymore." UK based hardcore/punk outfit the Ghost of a Thousand has signed to Epitaph Records. Tom Delonge has discussed Blink-182's 2009 plans, claiming that there won't be much touring but they will take place in a big event this summer. Rise Against and Rancid have announced their tour dates in the US and Canada with support from the Riverboat Gamblers and Billy Talent. Flogging Molly, Street Dogs and Civet will hit the road in Japan. The Bouncing Souls are also touring with the Loved Ones and Black President. Bad Religion have dates scheduled prior to Warped Tour as well. This week Bridge and Tunnel have unveiled the new song "Loss Leaders" and post-Distillers act Spinnerette released their new single "Sex Bomb." Off With Their Heads will appear on University of Minnesota's Radio K Monday to play play live on the air. Look for Jimmy Eat World and Neko Case to show up in Rock Band 2. Our friends at Marvel Comics chatted with Thursday's Geoff Rickly about his favourite caped heroes. Finally this week the BBC discussed the science of selling out.
