Hello everyone and welcome to Navel Gazing: your look back in the week in Punknews. I'm Bryne Yancey and I'll be your guide through some of the juiciest, most popular and otherwise noteworthy stories from the last seven days. • Tons more Screeching Weasel fallout this week, as 4/5 of the band resigned, after The Soviettes, Chinese Telephones, Teenage Bottlerocket dropped from Weasel Fest and Ben Weasel himself issued an apology for his actions at SXSW.
• It was revealed that OFF! was arrested in Arizona for stealing vegetable oil for their van en route to SXSW. Will Keith Morris wear a suit and tuck in his dreadlocks for the hearing on April 6? Stay tuned.
• In even more SXSW news, a Death From Above 1979 reunion show in Austin incited a riot
• The Bouncing Souls announced a tour of discography shows
• Fucked Up unveiled a new track from David Comes To Life, "The Other Shoe"
• It was a big week for us here at the 'Org, as we were lucky enough to have Ronen Kauffman join us on the Punknews Podcast. We also premiered a new video from The Gateway District and previewed Mitch Clem's newest project, Turnstyle Comics.

Q: There are to bands in particular that are often compared to Jawbreaker: Joyce Manor and Title Fight. I know there are more but I'm tired and dont feel like looking for more examples. But neither of those bands really sound Jawbreaker influenced IMO A: I've never really listened to them so I'm not going to comment on those two.

I'm more interested in what other bands you think have influenced more punk bands these days.

• The US House of Representatives voted to defund NPR, clearing money to purchase at least one, perhaps two new F-18 fighter jets.
• MTV announced plans to resurrect its seminal alternative music program, 120 Minutes
• Sublime (with Rome) signed to Fueled by Ramen
• Green Day and Hüsker Dü will be releasing a split on Record Store Day
• In unfortunate news, Casey Royer (D.I, Adolescents, Social Distortion) overdosed on heroin in front of his 12 year old son.

Q: Is Screeching Weasel hated on Punknews? Should I be embarassed to like their new album :( A: Don't be embarrassed if you like something, regardless if it's loved or reviled by your peers or critics (well this doesn't apply to everything, Nazi's are pretty much universally disliked, with good reason). As for the Weez's status on punknews, I don't think the band is disliked, so much as the antics of Ben Weasel, as of late. I don't think many people will deny how influential Screeching Weasel was to a lot of bands and fans of punk but it's harder to keep the discussion on that topic when the frontman of the band is busy lashing out at acts 1/2 his age and maybe 1/10 as popular. Also, defending Sarah Palin doesn't do much to help that image.

• Face To Face announced that their long-awaited new album, Laugh Now, Laugh Later, will be released in May. The group also detailed a tour in support of the album alongside Strung Out.
• No Sleep Records unveiled a slew of 2011 subscription packages.
• Elgin James of Righteous Jams was sentenced to a year in prison for an extortion scheme against Mest.
• Rise Against unveiled another new song from Endgame, "Satellite"
• Hot Water Music announced two more American dates in Milwaukee and Detroit.

Q: Out of curiosity, did any of you publish zines or play in any bands in the 90s? A: Aubin did a very short zine called Anti-Manifesto. Rich sang in a band called One-Eyed Hoagie. Yes you read that right. Justin played trumpet in a ska band that only practiced once and could play a horrible cover of "Mr. Smiley" by Mustard Plug. Similarly, Brian sang for a pop-punk band called Exit to Your Right who too only practiced once and did a pretty iffy "Dammit" cover, although this may have been more around 2000/2001.

I'm sure there are equally embarrassing stories from everyone else.
